PBC Clerk's Office Closing Early Amid Rumors Of Black Lives Matter Protest

It appears that another protest is planned for Downtown West Palm Beach, causing the early closure of a governmental office.

The Palm Beach County Clerk & Comptroller's Office says it will close its offices in that area at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in response to social media posts indicating that a "Black Lives Matter" protest is planned on Clematis Street at 3 p.m.

It's the same area where a protest over the death of George Floyd in Minnesota became a riot. Police say a "small group of agitators" among the protesters Sunday night threw rocks and bottles at officers after the crowd was told to leave at the 9 p.m. curfew.

That led to police shooting rubber bullets and storefront windows getting smashed.

Other Clerk & Comptroller's offices in the county will remain open until 4 p.m.
