Accidental Death of Disney Worker Investigated

An investigation continues into the death of an employee of Walt Disney World, who was killed in an accident near Disney's Pop Century Resort.

The accident happened late Monday morning, according to data from the Reedy Creek Fire Department, which has the Disney area as part of its jurisdiction.

The worker was identified as Juan Alberto Ojeda, who was 33-years-old.

Investigators say they had responded to reports of a man found unconscious at the resort property Monday morning.

Authorities say Ojeda was pronounced dead at the scene.

While there is construction work taking place in the general area, officials say Ojeda's death was not connected to that construction.

According to details released Tuesday afternoon, Ojeda had been working in a maintenance facility when the cart on which he was working moved and apparently pinned him before he could move.

Authorities noted that the incident occurred outside a backstage area that is closed to the public.

A few hours after this accident, officials report that a second, unrelated accident took place on Disney property.

In the second instance, a person on Animal Kingdom property reportedly fell and injured himself. Authorities say that person was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not deemed to be life-threatening.
