Trump Considering Pardons for ex-Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Martha Stewart

President Donald Trump is weighing pardons or commutations for convicted felon Martha Stewart and former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. The news comes just a few hours after the President revealed on Twitter that he would be signing a full pardon to Dinesh D'Souza today, citing unfair treatment by the government.

The conservative author pleaded guilty in 2014 for making $20,000 in illegal campaign contributions to the New York Senate campaign of Wendy Long, as well as making false statements to the Federal Election Commission. D'Souza was sentenced to five years probation, and eight months in a halfway house and a $30,000 fine.

Stewart, a home and lifestyle expert, was convicted back in 2004 on insider trading charges. Prosecutors say Stewart sold stock based on a non-public tip she had received to avoid losses on her shares of ImClone Systems. She was eventually found guilty on a variety of felony charges including conspiracy, and making false statements to federal investigators.  Martha Stewart served five months in prison.

Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, a Democrat, was impeached and removed from office in 2009 after trying to solicit bribes for then President-elect Barack Obama's vacant Senate Seat. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison and he is currently serving out his term at a federal correctional institute in Englewood, Colorado.

Trump's announcement comes one day following a meeting with reality TV star Kim Kardashian West about prison reform and a pardon for Alice Marie Johnson, who is currently serving a life sentence for a first-time conviction on drug-trafficking and money-laundering charges. The president has not indicated what he will do about Johnson.
