Rachel Dolezal Accused of Welfare Fraud

Rachel Dolezal, the former president of the Washington state chapter of the NAACP who was outed as a white woman posing as black, is facing welfare fraud charges TV station KHQ reports

Court documents obtained by KHQ show that Dolezal received up to $8,747 in food assistance as well as $100 in childcare assistance between August of 2015 and November 2017. When the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services became skeptical about her income reports, they found that bank records showed Dolezal depositing more than $80,000 into her bank account over several installments between August 2015 and September 2017.

In an interview with The Guardian, Dolezal said that the only job offers she was receiving was for reality TV and pornography and had been living on food stamps. At the time, she told reporters that she was worried about becoming homeless.

But one month later, she published a book, "In Full Color: Finding My Place in a Black and White World," which led to the investigation by the DSHS.

Dolezal, who legally changed her name to Nkechi Diallo in 2016, became known for identifying as "transracial" and posing as a black woman while serving as the president for the Washington state chapter of the NAACP. The former civil rights activist stepped down from the position following the controversy of her racial identity.
