Tech-Savvy Parrot Uses Amazon Alexa Better Than You Can

Amazon's Alexa is a great device to have around the house. You can use it to add items to your shopping list, control the lights in your home, and even play your favorite iHeartRadio Stations!!*

But what if you own an African Grey Parrot who is more adept at using Alexa than you are? Turns out, your household is hijacked at the whims of an animal.

The owner of Petra, an African grey Congo Parrot, learned to use Alexa and has apparently taken to ordering the virtual assistant to turn the lights on and off at unusual hours.

"First, you're like half-awake and like, 'Was that a dream? Did that just happen?'" Petra's owner told WKMG-TV. "All day, every day, it's all lights on, all lights off."

Petra has become a YouTube sensation with videos of her interacting with the virtual assistants are posted to a channel with more than 12,000 subscribers.

The 4-year-old parrot can speak more than 300 words, more than enough to take control of her owner's household. Petra's owner says the African grey is now learning how to use Google Home, even if she prefers Alexa (don't we all?).

Veterinarians say African grey Congo Parrots can live up to 50 to 70 years old, so Petra and Alexa have plenty of time to get to know one another better.
