Equal Pay Still an Issue

A new report shows the gender gap is getting smaller, but people involved with the report say it's not because women are being paid more ... it's because men are being paid less.

The report notes that women are now paid an average of just 82 cents for every dollar paid to men.

The report further indicates the number is even lower for blacks and Latinas.

Barbara DeVane with the National Organization for Women blames the "good old boys" in Tallahassee and Washington.

"We can't get Congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act," she said. "We can't even get our state Legislature to hear the bills that are filed on paycheck equity every year."

DeVane says the situation is not likely to change until more women are elected to Congress and the Florida Legislature.
