Hoax Threats Continue in Florida after Parkland Shooting

In Central Florida, authorities say various hoax threats continue roughly a week after the shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

Investigators in Volusia County cite a case that may be the most recent.

Authorities with the Sheriff's Office say a 14-year-old student at Deltona Middle School is the latest student there to face a felony charge for making a threatening statement at a school in the wake of the mass shooting.

Volusia County sheriff’s deputies say they arrested the teenager Wednesday at Deltona Middle School.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the assistant principal had contacted the school resource deputy after the student’s third-period teacher reported that the student yelled out a threat about blowing up the school.

Deputies say they determined the student did not actually have any intent to blow up the school or cause harm to anyone.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the student was charged with making a false report of a bomb, which is a felony.

Deputies in Volusia County say they have recently arrested two other students after receiving reports of threats against Volusia schools.

Also this week, DeLand police say they charged a student with disrupting a school function after he came to school with a cell phone case that closely resembled a handgun, prompting a lockdown of DeLand High School.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and other local law enforcement agencies say they will continue to take all threats seriously and show zero tolerance for jokes.
