State Senate Progress for Proposed Fracking Ban

A budget subcommittee in Tallahassee approved Tampa State Senator Dana Young's bill to prohibit the process known as hydraulic fracturing in Florida.

"First of all, the bill does not in any way impact traditional oil and gas production in our state," she said. "We are not, fortunately, fracking in Florida today."

But Dave Mica with the Florida Petroleum Council says this bill affects more than just fracking.

"Banning this technology also excludes much of the current technology, or makes it economically ineffective to produce oil and gas in this state where we have done so for about 70 plus years."

The fracking bill is one step closer to passage in the Senate, but it's going nowhere in the Florida House.
