Hotels, Motels, and Human Trafficking

A committee in the state Senate approved a bill this week giving victims of human trafficking the right to sue hotels and motels for civil damages.

Savannah Parvue told lawmakers she was just 12 years old when a pimp put her to work in Orlando.

"I was taken to the hotel and sold to several men each night," she said. "People who worked at the hotel knew something was happening, but they didn't do anything to help me."

Florida Lawmakers are reluctant to go after the hotel and motel industry because they're a major player in the state economy.

But the bill passed out of committee without a single vote against it.

It still has a long way to go before becoming law, however.
