Gas Prices Take a Downward Turn

Energy prices took a nosedive on the stock market last week and analysts say gas prices are declining as a result.

Officials with AAA Auto Club Group say Florida gas prices are 4 cents more than this time last week, but pump prices are quickly moving lower.

Analysts say Florida gas prices averaged $2.65 on Sunday; a 20 cent increase from a month ago, and 37 cents more than this time last year.

The most expensive gas price averages in Florida are in West Palm Beach-Boca Raton, Naples, and Sebring.

The least expensive gas price averages in Florida are in Pensacola, Tallahassee, and Panama City.

So far, AAA says gas prices have averaged their highest for the month of February in four years.

Officials with the auto group say Florida is number 13 among states with the most expensive gas prices in the country.

Analysts note that prices in Florida have the potential to drop 10-15 cents, based on what happened to oil prices.

However, they caution that refinery maintenance season is fast approaching and could spoil this big break for motorists.

Every year, from February to April, reduced refinery output and the switch to summer-blend gasoline normally causes gas prices to rise 30-70 cents.
