Florida House, Senate Pass Rival Budgets

State lawmakers in Tallahassee have approved a new budget... two of them, in fact.

The Senate budget sailed through the chamber with only one vote against it... but it was a different story in the House.

Democrats like Amy Mercado of Orlando accused the House Speaker of playing politics with the budget because he wants to run for governor.

"We're witnessing a strategy of governing based on aspiration of higher political office, not on serving Florida's working families," she said. "What we're witnessing is election year entertainment. It is an absolute disgrace."

Now that both chambers have approved their own budgets, they have to negotiate the differences and they are substantial.

Lawmakers have four weeks left in the session to finish the job.
