A death row inmate scheduled for execution next month lost his latest appeal at the Florida Supreme Court, and he wasn't the only one.
The high court ruled on ten death appeals Monday and every one was rejected.
On Friday, the governor signed Eric Branch's death warrant for murdering a student at the University of West Florida, and that's just fine with members of the Florida Supreme Court.
The state's highest court rejected Branch's latest plea... along with appeals from nine other men under sentence of death.
All but one of those inmates would have been entitled to a new sentencing hearing under current law because their juries did not issue a unanimous recommendation for death.
But the Supreme Court says that only applies in cases since 2002... and all ten of these happened before that deadline.
The Florida Supreme Court rejected the appeals of Pressley Bernard Alston, Kayle Barrington Bates, Donald Bradley, Eric Scott Branch, Marvin Burnett Jones, Daniel Jon Peterka, Harry Franklin Phillips, Jason Demetrius Stephens, Ernest D. Suggs, and Frank A. Walls.
