Electoral College Vs Popular Vote

Should Florida bail on the Electoral College system?

Stephanie Owens with the League of Women Voters says they have a new study that shows more than two-thirds of Floridians believe the presidential race should be decided by the popular vote... not the Electoral College.

"All public officials in this country are elected by popular vote, except one, and that's the President of the United States," she said. "This is inconsistent with 'one person-one vote,' which we all know is a bedrock of our democracy."

The League of Women Voters is supporting two bills that call on Florida to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

The Compact is a back-door way of switching to direct vote without having to change the US Constitution.
