Seasonal Traffic Enforcement Underway

As part of the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles' focus on safe holiday travel, the Florida Highway Patrol will join thousands of other law enforcement and highway safety agencies across the nation in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

It's a campaign that officials say is running now through New Year's Day.

The FHP says it will concentrate its enforcement on impaired driving throughout Florida in an effort to save lives this holiday season.

With this massive enforcement effort now front and center for the driving public's attention, the advice starts with drive sober, and only sober.

Legal age adults should celebrate responsibly and plan ahead by finding a safe way home every time - designate a driver or call a ride service.

Officials are also reminding drivers to obey all speed limits, and always buckle up.

A final caution is to focus on driving. Don't let your attention stray toward texting, talking on the phone, eating, adjusting the stereo ... those are all distractions, and they can have horrific consequences.

Authorities say all uniformed FHP personnel, including those normally assigned to administrative duties, will be patrolling interstates and other major state roads.

The FHP says its Auxiliary troopers will also volunteer to augment the FHP during the holiday period.

This increased presence throughout Florida is meant to deter traffic violations and enhance services to motorists who break down or who need other assistance while traveling.

Drivers are reminded that they should call *FHP (*347) if they see an impaired or aggressive driver, or to request roadside assistance.
