Florida Gas Prices Decline Slightly

After a somewhat volatile month for prices at the pump in November, petroleum analysts say gas prices opened December on the decline.

According to analysts at AAA Auto Club Group, Florida gas prices have declined the past 22 consecutive days for an average total discount of 9 cents.

AAA says the current Florida gas price average is $2.440, 2 cents lower than last week, up 4 cents than one month ago, and 26 cents higher than last year.

The most expensive gas price averages in Florida are in West Palm Beach, Miami, and Naples.

The least expensive gas price averages in Florida are in Pensacola, Jacksonville, and Orlando.

AAA says gas prices faced upward pressure last week, due to an OPEC meeting and its effects on the oil market.

Oil prices rose following the meeting between OPEC and some non-OPEC producers led by Russia.

The group agreed to keep its production cuts in place until the end of 2018, AAA analysts said.

AAA officials say gas prices have been falling in recent weeks, but it has been a slow drip; and oil prices are at their highest point of the year, preventing the typical seasonal plunge at the pump.

Analysts say any strong gains in oil this week should push pump prices higher.

However, they add that the overall story this month should be lower gas prices as demand declines, holiday travel notwithstanding.
