Majority Whip Steve Scalise is speaking on the House Floor for the first time since he was critically injured in June when a gunman opened fire on a congressional baseball practice in Northern Virginia. Scalise returned to Congress on Thursday (September 28) and got a standing ovation from Republicans and Democrats on the floor of the House.
Scalise noted an outpouring of love and prayer during his recovery. The Louisiana Republican thanked members of his Capitol Police security detail, who helped keep the gunman occupied until reinforcements arrived.
