Here’s a list of general population, special-needs and pet-friendly shelters in Central Florida.

All shelters are closed until county administrators make the decision to open them based on the storm’s track and intensity.

Not all shelters will open during a storm. They will open according to capacity needs. Check back for updates and location changes.

Special needs shelters will also open on Friday; telephone calls to registered clients will begin today, as County staffers determine which residents will require transportation via Space Coast Area Transit buses.

Although shelters will provide food, residents going to shelters will need to take their own supplies, including bedding, folding chairs or sleeping bags; any needed medications; multiple changes of clothing and sturdy shoes; personal hygiene items; and entertainment items, like games, cards, books, or magazines.

Residents who do not plan to stay in public shelters are encouraged to stay with family or friends on the mainland, and to evacuate tens of miles rather than hundreds of miles, as traffic on highways and interstates is likely to be heavier.

SPECIAL NEEDS SHELTERS:

If you or a family member, during periods of evacuation or emergency, requires evacuation and/or sheltering assistance due to physical impairments, mental impairments, cognitive impairment, or sensory disabilities; it is important that you are aware of your County's Special Needs Shelter program and its Registry. While all Special Needs Shelters provide a level of medical care that exceeds basic first aid provided at General Population Shelters, the capabilities of each Special Needs Shelter may vary based upon a community's needs and available resources. It is important that you become familiar with the services available within your community before an emergency or disaster strikes, please reach out to your County directly to obtain more information about its Special Needs program.
