Harvey stormed ashore over the weekend as a Category 4 hurricane, leaving a path of devastation along the Texas Gulf Coast. The cities of Rockport, Port Aransas and Victoria were hit particularly hard. Inland a few miles, Houston has experienced catastrophic flooding, prompting thousands of water rescues by first responders and everyday citizens. As of Saturday afternoon, officials reported half of the 27 million residents of Texas had been impacted by the storm, as well as one-third of the state’s landmass.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott activated 3,000 federal and state guard members, declaring 18 counties a disaster.
“We’re measuring rain these days not in inches but in feet,” Gov. Abbott said on Fox News Sunday.

Dr. Greg Postel, meteorologist and hurricane specialist for The Weather Channel, said the flooding in the Houston area “could be the worst flooding disaster in U.S. history.”
